Solon History Center

Solon History is now available through digital access

Great news from Solon History Committee chairwoman, Sandy Hanson.  Solon newspapers are now on-line! Past issues from 1887 to 2009 are accessible, issues 2010 through 2018 are in process.  Access is available at: solon.advantage-preservation.com.

This digitization process was made possible with support from Solon Beef Days Committee, Solon Community Foundation, South Slope/Aureon, Solon Women’s Club, Solon History Book Sales and other sources.

Families, historians and graduates and others are now able to visit the pages of Solon’ newspapers by going on-line and researching articles once published in our local newspaper.

Now available! Dean's Dream: The Solon Hardware Story. Solon, Iowa filmmaker Barry Sharp shares this documentary about the impact of "Dean's Dream" and the Solon Hardware Store on the community it has served. Dean Trump and his wife Carolyn opened the Solon Hardware Store in 1975. While Dean passed away in 1996, Carolyn has kept his dream alive throughout the years. The film is being shared for the public to view with thanks to filmmaker Barry Sharp & the Solon Public Library.
