Storytime Theme :: Winter Holidays

December 2020: We're sharing stories about Winter Holidays! December is filled with celebrations, we'll share stories each week about different events like the winter solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year's and more!

This month's Digital Storytime is sponsored by the Solon Public Library Foundation. The Foundation provides support for library programs and long-range building plans. Donations to the Foundation are an investment in our community and long-term growth of the Library.

December 2019

This month our theme was “Winter Holidays.” We learned about Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa celebrations!

Books we read:

Llama Llama Holiday Drama by Anna Dewdney

Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson

It’s Hanukkah! By Jeanne Modesitt

Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah by Susan L. Roth

Li’l Rabbit’s Kwanzaa by Donna L. Washington

My First Kwanzaa by Karen Katz

Songs we sang:

Let’s All Do a Little Clapping (“We Wish You a Merry Christmas”)
Let’s all do a little clapping*
Let’s all do a little clapping
Let’s all do a little clapping
And spread Christmas cheer! / And spread Hanukkah light! / And spread Kwanzaa love!
*jumping / bending / twirling / sitting

Ring Those Bells (“Jimmy Crack Corn”)
Ring those bells and turn around,*
Ring those bells and turn around,
Ring those bells and turn around,
Christmas time is here!
*…and stomp your feet / …and clap your hands / …and jump up high / …and touch the floor /
…and sit right down

Spin Little Dreidels
Spin, little dreidels, go, go, go.
Spin, little dreidels, now go slow.
Spin, little dreidels, jump so high.
Spin, little dreidels, reach for the sky.
Spin, little dreidels, touch your nose.
Spin, little dreidels, stand on your toes.
Spin, little dreidels, take a hop.
Spin, little dreidels, don't you stop.
Spin, little dreidels, spin around.
Spin, little dreidels, drop to the ground.
